This chicken coop was built by Don “Yukon” Erickson in the 1990’s at the Erickson Appalachian farm in Sister Bay on Scandia Road. Erickson built the coop with two doors—one for the chickens and another for the farmer. During the day, the small door was left open so the chickens could go in and out at will to feed and take water. The large door was left open for ventilation. By evening, the free-range chickens would head into the hen house to be safe from any predators that might come to harm them. The farmer would then close both doors until the next morning.
